Homeless UK man with nuclear induced illness seeks legal redress

Despite receiving a judgement in the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in his favour (2008), former successful Reading businessman, Raymond Fox did not receive compensation for the loss of his health and home, on top of having been made an “indefinite bankrupt” since 2001 for an alleged debt of £7,000.  He has now been made homeless and like many others who have been declared bankrupt/lost their properties, he intends to seek that UK law be upheld to deal with his multifaceted problems.

From 1988 to 2001 Ray Fox and his family lived in Wokingham Road, Earley, near Reading next to the alleged buried nuclear reactor on a former Shell petrochemical terminal. See Shell Buried Nuclear Bunker (part of a Mark Thomas documentary Secret Map of Britain broadcast on Channel 4)  See also Ray Fox’s website, and Shell Nuclear Contamination broadcast on London Tonight and Suburb Poisoned by Shell Plutonium..

Having bought the Earley house in 1988, Ray Fox’s health forced him to leave it 13 years later due to the highest plutonium and uranium contamination ever recorded in Britain. It has been documented that Mr Fox is suffering from radioactivity induced illness. Since leaving the house, he lived in rented accommodation, from which Reading County Court recently evicted him and his stepson – thus making him homeless. Mr Fox and his wife had adopted the boy when he was two months old after his parents had died from nuclear induced illness.

Reading County Court had ordered the repossession of the contaminated home in Earley by Bradford & Bingley Bank, now owned by The Crown, The Crown and Shell being joint owners of the Shell site that has been under investigation by independent radiation specialists.

“It is utterly disgraceful and unacceptable in any civilised society that a man who has been so harmed by contamination of his property is unable to obtain any compensation or redress or even any sensible investigation of his serious problems which will clearly affect and must have affected many other people.” Prof Chris Busby, Scientific Sec of the European Cttee on Radiation Risk

When, in the name of all that is morally justifiable, can we expect to be part of a civilised society?

The more one reads of everyday events, the more one is beset by nightmares; contemplating whether one is living in the real world or a land peopled by the imagination of H.G Wells or George Orwell’s caricatures of 1984.

Perhaps it was ever thus, but never have we had such a plethora of information while much of the public, apparently, remains in blissful ignorance.

How and when can we expect the great awakening? Edmund Burke (1729-1770) is credited with saying “Evil prevails when good men do nothing – when bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.”

Which proves only that evil and corruption have ever been present in our society. The will to overcome that evil needs courage and determination as well as time and the right moment. Most of all, it needs a combination of the right people in the right place at the right time.

Certainly, the internet has provided all of us with just these ingredients. Never have so many been able to access so much information. Now we know we are not alone.

    • Well said, dear VeraMaureen!!!

It’s all about separating the sheep(le) from the goats, methinks. It’s not just about one’s own “satisfaction with life” but it’s also about how far can we transcend our selves and be there for a larger circle of people.

In any case, it’s a matter of ethics, values and personal conscience that determines how ‘political’ we are. “Personal is political” is an old feminist slogan!

      Go for it!

    • Unfortunately I understand a lot of what you are going thurgoh, after I became pregnant my then fiance9 threatened that if I broke up with him he would take my child and I would never see him again, after he was born I broke up the relationship and remained in my country, where my child was born, the threats continue and after years have passed he has even shown up with armed men in front of my home, as you can imagine keeping my child away from her biological father was never my intention but the constant threats make it impossible to allow contact, I have even been visited by the US embassy (which could help you), every six months to check on the welfare of my child, according to them that is all they can do, I have had to go into hiding whenever immigration informs me of his arrival in my country, according to the lawyers legal proceeding will likely drag at least another decade or so, possibly till he is 18, and can make his own decision as to what he considers the most prudent relationship with his father should be. the Hague convention just passed in my country and brings a little relief nevertheless I live in constant fear of my child being kidnapped by a mentally unstable father, I wish you better luck than what I have had so far, I only wish my child had a father who truly cared for his well being as much as you do for Sean
